FINISHED PROJECTS
every full-length album i have released!!! (none of these are good)
FLOWERHOLD - debut album, created 2018-2019. a collection of sample-based dark ambient tracks made by messing around in sony vegas, of all programs. beware of the awful production and long-winded snoozefests that lie ahead.
TRIVIA
- "bloom" was rushed out after having assembled the rest of the tracks because i felt like the album needed a proper opening track.
- "negatory" samples a heavily pitch-shifted recording of a bowling alley.
- "hydrargyrum" was an attempt at making a harsh noise track.
- the part of hydrargyrum that lasts from around 8:00 to 9:00 is recycled from the first song i had ever made when i was 15. the distorted oscillating sound was a result of aimlessly applying tons of effects to a sample of "yulquen" by autechre.
- the intro to "ngon" as well as the part at 2:11 are the only instances, prior to manifest concept, of original instrumentation in my music. they are both recordings of me playing a casio keyboard i got for my birthday many years prior.
- although "hydrargyrum" features a direct excerpt of my first track ever, "cisternsic" is a proper remake / remaster of the same track. the ending was also taken directly from my first track.
- "cisternsic" is split into three parts because vegas's output of the full track was too large for bandcamp.
- the album cover is a random drawing i made in a graphic design class.
- my favorite track from this album is "ngon", and my least favorite is probably "bloom" just because i put no effort into it at all.
SCATTERBRAIN - created 2019. 100 mostly really short tracks meant to be played on shuffle. don't mind the two 10+ minute tracks that i decided to include for some reason.
TRIVIA
- the idea for this album was inspired by gescom's minidisc.
- a handful of tracks here were made using image to audio conversion software.
- the tracks "36_60.1" through "36_60.24" were made using some generative music software i had found on youtube.
- "cisternamy" is meant to be a sequel to "cisternsic".
- the album cover is a photo of a bunch of ripped up paper in a bin of water, which was being used for an art project where we would blend up bits of wet paper to make it into a new sheet of paper.
- my favorite track from this album is "cisternamy" despite it being completely out of place. my least favorite is hard to decide considering how many tracks there are but i'd probably go with any one of the tracks that literally just recycle recordings from "ngon".
MELOTRAI - created 2019. a somewhat sincere attempt at a mashup record, still made in sony vegas because it's all i knew how to work with.
TRIVIA
- this is probably my worst album.
- there's a track i had intended to include on this album that i literally just forgot to add to the tracklist, and i never fixed this.
- the first six tracks are meant to be strung together as a medley.
- "hidden CK" was the first track i made to actually have some sort of steady rhythm to it.
- the title of "hidden CK" was intended to be some sort of play on "hide and seek".
- the album cover is a photo of an ink print done on construction paper using carved linoleum.
- my favorite tracks on this album are "lesthanE" and "hidden CK". any other tracks are probably equal contenders for my least favorite track.
YOU'RE NEVER GOING HOME - created 2020. a return to dark ambient territories but with more structure and a distinctly lo-fi sound.
TRIVIA
- this is probably my favorite album of mine, even though it definitely has some major things weighing it down.
- this album was heavily inspired by the caretaker, albeit with a more digital, modern twist to it in its use of things such as vhs noise and video game soundtracks.
- the sound at the start of "glitching organic matter", as well as the sample playing throughout it, are both from some small platformer on steam called "return." (with the period in the title)
- "glitching organic matter" also samples recordings from "operation wandering soul", an audio tape used by american soldiers in vietnam as a tactic in psychological warfare. i don't necessarily approve of the reason for this tape existing, but at least it sounds kind of interesting.
- the sounds in "discard immediately" are all known for their use in old roblox horror games, so it's kind of meant to be somewhat of a joke.
- "dizzying mists" was originally made as a concept for a sample-based horror game soundtrack. the kevin macleod sample was also kind of a joke but i tried to turn it into something a bit more genuinely unnerving.
- "nobody's special day" samples a recording of a music box playing "swan lake", known for its use in five nights at freddy's 3. there was one day where, while at school, i listened to said recording for multiple hours on end for some reason.
- an older version of "there used to be stars" sounded different for reasons i'm entirely not sure of. specifically, it generally had a much crunchier and more abrasive sound, which i much preferred to the final version. i literally didn't change anything about that part of the track, only making adjustments to the ending for the album version, and somehow the updated version ended up changing how it sounded.
- the album cover is a photo of a chandelier that i took right as a turned the lights off, making it look a lot darker.
- my favorite track from this album is "the void spring", and my least favorite is "the most perfect day".
MANIFEST CONCEPT - created 2021. now made with adobe audition (mostly) instead of sony vegas. an album loosely themed around dreams and stuff like that. definitely my most ambitious and elaborate project, featuring another attempt at more structured, rhythmic tracks, use of semi-original work, and more diverse sample selections. despite this, i find it to be really unremarkable and uninteresting overall.
TRIVIA
- "bitpound" features a recording of me messing around with a kick drum piano roll in fl studio.
- the synths in "pymniƩgedo" mark the first time i had ever really used a synthesizer for anything. the synths in this track were done using harmless.
- "extracurricular activity" is an incredibly old track compared to the rest of the album, and was one i had been wanting to use in an album for ages.
- the chord progression in the beginning of "work in progress" was derived from "new seeds" by boards of canada.
- "nautical nightmare" is one of the only joke songs i've made that i still think is actually kind of funny.
- the title of "long live the dink" references a building in my former home town that had a window allowing you to see into some kind of storage room from the outside. most nights, a light would be on inside the room, so you could see right in front of the window a bathtub with a muppet-like pirate doll sitting in it, looking out the window. the tub was labelled "the dink" and the track was named in memory of this, because at some point the tub and pirate disappeared from the window and i'm still really sad about that to this day.
- this album is designed to loop perfectly, hence why it ends with a recording of a thunderstorm that's abruptly cut off. i guess i thought that was a cool idea at the time, even though it's pretty pointless.
- the album cover combines a photo of a dock in the early evening with a photo of wet, messy paint.
- my favorite track from this album is "pymniƩgedo", and my least favorite is "synaptic supernova".
